Dear Racers,

The 10th Annual 24 Hours of Snowshoe is fast approaching and Granny wants you to know this very important information before you head out for the hills of Wild & Wonderful West Virginia:

Camping/Pit Areas: Snowshoe Mountain Resort will operate the camping/pit area. There will be a $50 fee for the entire weekend (Wednesday through Monday) for a 15 ft. x 20 ft. camping/pit space, plus one (and only one) parking permit. If your team has more than one vehicle, plan to pay $5 per car, per day and parking may not be close to your camping/pit area. There will not be a per person per night fee; there will be a space fee only. This pays for the insurance, port-o-lets, trash removal, hot showers, grounds repairs, etc. Reservations are required for your camping/pit space(s). Reservations are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis. No vendors or concessions will be allowed in these areas. Also, be aware that dry conditions may prohibit open campfires.

Parking: All vehicles will be charged $5 per car, per day (Saturday and Sunday) to park at Silver Creek Lodge. Guests of Silver Creek Lodge will need to get parking passes from the front desk. Snowshoe will be collecting parking fees at the Guard House on Silver Creek Parkway. There will be different passes issued for each day.

RV Parking: Snowshoe Mountain Resort will provide RV parking (with electric hook-ups only; no sewer or water) for $75 per night. No vendors or concessions will be allowed in this area. Reservations are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis. There are different sized RV spaces: 40 ft. x 25 ft. with 50 amp or 30 amp electric service or 25 ft. x 25 ft. spaces with 20 amp service. Be sure to request the appropriate space for your RV. Reservations are required. Call Snowshoe/Silver Creek Reservations (304)572-5252.

Racer Pick-up/Drop-off Area: This area is located near the RV Parking lot. Each team will be issued one “Team Pass” at Registration and only vehicles displaying their “Team Pass” will be permitted in this Racer Pick-up/Drop-off area (it's like a loading zone; no parking allowed). Teams will receive their “Team Pass” at Registration (not before). All other vehicles will be charged $5 per car, per day (Saturday and Sunday) to park at Silver Creek Lodge.

Volunteers: Granny needs your help! If you have friends and family that will be attending the race, why not encourage them to get a front row seat to all the action? With a field limit of 500 teams, plus 50 solo riders, we're definitely going to need their help. Shifts are six hours long. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old (also, please leave Fido at home). All volunteers who commit to one full shift, will get a cool T-shirt, mug and meal ticket for all of their hard work. Call Suzanne today at (304)259-5533 to sign up. Starting May 29th, call (304)572-1000 and we'll happy to assist you. Avoid the rush, come early and stay late. Don't miss out on the birthday bash to end all bashes!

Shuttle Info: Snowshoe will be operating a shuttle for volunteers and spectators on Saturday from 7 a.m. till just past midnight and Sunday from 7 a.m. till 4 p.m. It will run every 30 minutes between the top of the mountain and Silver Creek Lodge. Here's the best part: It's free! Plus, by parking at the top, you'll save the $5 parking fee at Silver Creek Lodge. Parking is extremely limited at Silver Creek, so we encourage you to take advantage of the shuttle. No bikes are allowed on the shuttle.

Race Course: The new race course map is posted on the web. Our trail maintenance crews did some great work and the course is definitely more rideable. However, the course is still extremely technical and challenging. Read all about it by going to: http://www.grannygear.com/24hours_snowshoe/index.htm#map.

ALA Teams: ALA teams need to send in their Team Entry Forms and Accident Waivers today. Please download the forms from www.grannygear.com and send them in now. Write “ALA” in the Amount Paid section. Download your complete team entry forms (includes Team Entry Form and Accident Waiver) by clicking here.

Lighting: You can find answers to your questions about lighting in the Tips section of our website.

Bike Check: The Bike Check tent will be open on Saturday, June 9th from 10 a.m. through Sunday, June 10th at 3 p.m. This free service is provided by your friends at Snowshoe. The Bike Check Tent will be located by the shower trailer next to Silver Creek Lodge.

Food for Thought: We're sure you noticed that Clif Bar is a proud sponsor of The 24 Hour Race Series. We're very pleased and you should be, too. Each racer will be getting both a delicious Clif Bar and a Clif Shot in their Team Swag Bag.

What time is it?: Check out Granny's latest Schedule of Events to make sure you've got the most current information before you leave home. Registration will be on Friday, June 8th from 12 Noon till 9 p.m. in the lobby of Silver Creek Lodge. Registration on Saturday will be from 8 till 10 a.m. Teams submitting late Accident Waivers, and/or making any changes and/or rider substitutions, will incur a $10 fee (per change or late waiver). Teams submitting late waivers and/or changes on race day will incur a $20 fee (per change or late waiver).

Weather: Be prepared for any and all weather conditions. It could be cold and wet on race weekend. Bring plenty of layers, just in case. Even if it's 90 degrees before you leave home, be prepared for adverse conditions.

Fresh Tips: Do you have any new (or used) 24 Hour training and/or racing tips that you want to share with Granny? She has always enjoyed your comments in the past and with your helpful suggestions and advice, she's hoping to shave a couple minutes off her lap time this year. Email your fresh tips to us

Granny's Play List: Granny wants to know what music you want to hear while you're waiting for your teammate to hand you that baton. Take a moment and think about your favorite song or songs; tell her what gets your heart racing. Email name of artist, album, and song title to Elizabeth. We'll do our best to make sure your song gets on Granny's Play List.

Feel free to call us at Snowshoe at (304)572-6999 and we'd be happy to answer any questions. Happy Trails!
