Important Information - Please Read
We'll in my last e-mail I said I had a feeling this year would be special. Here's a couple of important points you should know before coming to the race. I know that this message may be cutting it close but for those who DO get this info, please spread the word.

First, the weather. It's looking like we may have late-night thunderstorms and lows in the low 40's on Saturday night. Also, there may be a few showers on Sunday. Be prepared for all conditions. This kind of weather can create hypothermic conditions. If it gets too cold and wet or if there looks to be a significant amount of lightning, we will close the course temporarily, as I mentioned in the previous e-mail communique.

The recent record rains have done wonders for the course and the venue but the rains hammered the entrance road. We've had a ton of road-work done. The first part of the entrance road is a little rough but the majority of the road is in great shape.

Because of the road-work needed and the on-going rains, our venue set-up crew has been hampered and put into a major time crunch. We've been busting out hard 12+ hour days to catch-up and we are catching-up but if some things aren't quite dialed yet, please bear with us.

The rains have also affected our supply of fire wood. The old mill where we get our slab wood is inundated with water and they can not get a loader to the slab-wood pile. We're looking for other options but supplies of wood in these parts are hard to find. Most likely you will need to bring your own wood or, better yet, bring propane heaters. Most importantly, bring warm gear.

Race Packet Pick-up and Late Registration at the Moab Arts & Recreation Center
All teams must pick-up their race packets on Thursday (3 pm to 7 pm) or Friday (2 pm to 10 pm) at the MARC. There is no race packet pick-up or late registration on Saturday, race day. Teams that are registered and have all their accident waivers submitted need only to send one representative to pick-up thier race packet (race numbers, RFID's, T-shirts and Frisbees). Otherwise, late registering teams and teams who do not have all their accident waivers submitted must bring all their paper work and pay late fees ($10 per late waiver). Here's are links for paper forms for >>>Late Registration and >>>Late Waivers.

Directions to Moab Arts and Recreation Center (the MARC)
From 191 (the main drag through Moab), go east on 100 North for one block. The MARC is a large building on your left.

A Word from one of our Announcers
Bruce Hildenbrand here. It's always a blast to come to Moab and work the race with my compatriot, Dave Towle. I've been checking out the stats and the team pages on Granny's website and it all adds up to a weekend of great racing. We've got such notable entrants as Nat Ross, Keith Bontrager, and the indomitable Dawes Wilson. Nat is gunning for his third Granny Gear 24 Hour win this season and the pot of gold that comes with the overall series championship. Bruce Frazier and his 5-person Coed Team “Miss Behavin and the Four Players” has had top three finishes in Temecula, CA and Landahl, MO and are looking to lock up the overall title in Moab as well.

Jay Henry and Mike Jannele last years winners in the hotly contested Duo Pro category will not defend. Look for Team Beaver Creek with Zach Bingham and Jake Wells to be at the front of the pack in Duo Pros.

In the Co-ed Pro Am division and all-female team, “The Bare Naked Ladies of Cannondale #96” featuring Becca Blay, Theresa Richardson, Judy Freeman and Nina Baum will be looking to podium in a category usually more stacked with riders of the male persuasion. This could shape up to be a real battle of the sexes.

There's 360+ number plates being issued and one of them will be on the front of your bike. Ride hard, ride safe and have fun! Dave and I will be cheering you on and keeping you up-to-the-moment with all the race happenings. Enjoy the ride!

Honey? You Remember The Kids?
The 24 Minutes of Moab Rolls On!

It's a Moab tradition and hey! They're the the future of our sport. Get 'em started right. We emphasize sportsmanship and fun. Entry to the race is free and everyone wins a prize! Helmets required. Registration opens at 3 pm and the race goes off at 4 pm. Don't miss the fun!

RVs & Camping
The Moab venue is an all-camping or RV venue and there's plenty of room for everyone. WE DO CHARGE A $10/DAY GATE FEE TO EVERYONE, RACERS, SUPPORT CREW AND SPECTATORS (with Wednesday and Sunday night fee and kids under 12 free.). We do this because of the extraordinary costs of hosting 3,000 people out in the desert, 12 miles from the nearest utilities. We pay fees for land use and insurance plus we provide 65 port-o-lets, serviced round-the-clock, 40 cubic yards of garbage removal services, 12,000 gallons of potable water, water for dust-supression, and hot (not just warm) showers for everyone. It's also much simpler to charge everyone at the gate than it is to include the camping fee into the entry fee and than have our gate staff trying to figure out who are racers and who are not. {Note that any volunteers will receive a $10 camping rebate at the end of their shift, not to mention their meal-ticket and event T-shirt}

You can pitch your tent right next to your car or bring in a travel trailer or RV (but there are no RV hook-ups). The closest sites are a stone's throw from the start/finish area. The furthest sites are less than 600 yards from the start/finish. Also, there are Solo-racer-only sites that are right along the course. Camping is available at the race site on Wednesday through Sunday night, on a first-come-first-served basis. There's enough room to camp 500+ teams.
>>MORE CAMPING & RV INFORMATION.

NOTE: The campgrounds are divided by whether or not you intend to use generators. All campers, RV's and trailers that plan to use generators must set-up South and East of the main venue (on the left side of the road, past the main venue, as you enter).

Also, please leave Fido and other pets at home!

For more information on lodging before or after the race: call Moab Central Reservations at (800) 748-4386 or (800) 505-5343. Or, check out their website at www.moabutahlodging.com.

CamelBak is Back with the Hydration Station!
Ever eager to be there for you, once again CamelBak will be setting-up a remote Hydration Station on the back side of the course, just where you are going to need it most! They'll be there round-the-clock keeping your body topped-off. Remember, Hydrate-or-Die!
We Still Need a Few More Volunteers
There are registrar shifts still open for the the 2nd, 3rd and 4th shifts. It's a blast. Bring some friends or family to help out. They'll have more fun.

Let's Race!
It's time for another historic 24 Hours of Moab! We're so psyched to see everyone again. See you soon!
