Race Update:

New Name, Same Great Race
Yup, the 24 Hours of Temecula is now The 24 Hours of Vail Lake. It's a tip-of-the-hat to the fine folks at Vail Lake Resort. Now, going into our fifth year with Vail Lake Resort, The 24 Hours of Vail Lake is primed for long-term success.

This event has endured a major, property-wide fire, post-fire flooding and erosion as well as land use issues that have threatened access to the trails, but all of that is in the past. The trails are now in the best shape ever and Vail Lake has won all its land use battles.

The owners of Vail Lake really appreciate the important role that The 24 Hours of Temecula has played in establishing Vail Lake Resort as one of THE premier mountain bike facilities in SoCal. With all the past issues put to bed, they are extremely excited to move forward. Accordingly, GGP and Vail Lake have renewed their contract for another five-years!

Your Race, Your Friends, Your Fun!
If you received our last e-mail you know that things were touch-n-go for this year until very recently. That put us too late to do any major marketing for Vail Lake. I don't know if there will be 40 teams or 140, but I do know that every team racing will have a great time. The race is ON, and we're not going to spare any expense in making the race super fun, regardless of the size of the event.

I'm asking everyone to spread the word. When you go out riding this weekend or in the weeks to come, talk it up! Your participation and you recommendations are going to be what makes this race happen. RealTime™ Scoring, great announcing, great course marking, generous prize tables and great volunteers keep the focus on the fun. You can be sure that anyone you recommend this race to will get a weekend chock-full of fun and great memories. Twenty teams are pre-registered at this writing, with about one month to go (hey, that's a few more than last year at this time!). There's still plenty of time to get teams together. With the late start, we have removed all late fees. Register your team today and let the fun begin! >>>On-line Registration
The Series Opener and a Ripp'n Fun Course
There couldn't be a better race for the Series Opener of The 24 Hour National Point Series. Sunny SoCal in April is a welcome relief to those who have braved cold winters elsewhere and for locals, it's time to really stretch the legs as the rainy season comes to a close.

The course at Vail Lake is nothing short of World-Class. The climbs are hard-packed and fast and you won't find more swoopy, berm-ripping, heart-pounding, downhill single track this side of heaven. >>>View Course Maps or >>>Download Google Earth Course Overlays

City Bikes in D.C. Throws Down in Bid For Series Champs
City Bikes, a popular shop in Washington D.C., recently announced their intention to go for the Points Championship, starting with Vail Lake. "City Bikes mountain bike team is planning on contesting the four-man expert national title. I already bought my plane ticket." wrote Mike Klasmier, "We are fielding one team for Temecula, Conyers and Killington, and 3-4 teams for Big Bear. Moab is a possibility."

Best wishes to Mike and his crew. Mike, You've got some fun laps in store at Vail Lake but you will have to earn your points against Vail Lake's defending Men's Exp. champs Sho-Air Rock N' Road Cyclery. They bowed-out in '06 due to a last minute injury but Manuel Prado and his crew scorched some fast laps in 2005. Any other experts want to give these guys a run at Vail Lake?

Camping and RV Spots are Available but Move Quickly
Vail Lake is being discovered by more and more people and their facility is booking-up faster each year. There are RV spots and campsites available, all very close to the venue. The best areas for the race are the Merlot Mesa, Lower Merlot, the Rincon and the lower Oaks. (The two Merlot areas are the best for Solos and Duos. They are right on the course.) >>>See Map

The camping spots (with water on-site) are $35 per night and RV spots (with water, electric and sewer hook-ups) are $48 per night. Site rental allows for up to six (6) occupants per site. There is no two-night minimum and no per-person gate fee.

Reservations are highly recommended:

For all of you who get to ride it, you know how amazing The Vail Lake course is. But now, thanks to the folks from the FJ Trail Team, your friends and family will have the opportunity to get out during the race and see the stunning views and amazing terrain themselves. Now they'll not only be able to cheer-you-on out on course, they'll see why you do these crazy races and why you deserve the props! The FJ Trail Team will be supporting the event in many ways, shuttling volunteers, re-supplying EMS staff and course marshals, keeping their extremely capable Toyota FJ's very busy. There will also be an opportunity for you to test-drive the FJ and put it through the paces yourself. We'll be sending out details to all the registered teams in the pre-race updates. Stay tuned. >>>Toyota FJ Trail Team

Our First Heap'n Help'n of Fun!
We're very grateful for the opportunity to return to Temecula for the new (in name at least) 24 Hours of Vail Lake. We're also grateful to get to produce races for such a super group of people. Your sense of fun and your positive attitudes have been inspiring us from the start and we're SO looking forward to seeing everyone again at Vail Lake.

We hope you will come out to play with us at one of our other events too, maybe even throw your hat into the Point Series ring. In any case, have a great race at Vail Lake!
See you soon!
