Race Update #2: Loading up the truck for Killington
(read race update #1 here)
Some of our staff got to Killington this week to start course marking and trail work. The rest of us travel tomorrow so we can attend the IMBA Trail Building School on Saturday. (It's Saturday only, not Saturday and Sunday as earlier advertised, so perhaps we can all go for a ride on Sunday!) We hope you'll consider joining us. It's not just about doing trail work. You'll actually learn techniques for designing and building sustainable trails. It's good stuff. This is a rare opportunity to learn from the best.

All the Granny Gear staff are going to Rutland Saturday night to see the the stage performance of Hello Dolly at The Paramount Theatre and we invite you to join us. We'll likely get some dinner in Rutland. What's the local knowledge on good restaurants?

Next week, we'll be finishing the course work and setting up the start/finish and tending to all the myriad details, prepping for the race. We'll be working from our temporary offices at Killington. If you need to reach us by phone, you can call our production manager, Moriah, on her shoe phone at 304.614.5091.

We're really psyched to see everyone again. Here's to a dry race this year!

A Classic Granny Gear Course! The New Course & Rain Course
Some minor changes have been made to the course and we've also designed in some short-cuts to make a better rain course. We've posted the changes on the course map page for 24 Hours of Killington.

YourMTB.com Correspondents Selected
Three official correspondents have been chosen. Kristyn Dumont, Jason Achilich and Theresa Crombach. Dumont has a "fantastic partner" who's been racing his singlespeed 29er and after supporting him in several races, she has been fantasizing racing her own endurance race.

Achilich has vowed to "throw down and do this on my single speed", he has also vowed to "never to do one (a 24) on a SS again!" We're guessing he has some clue that this course is going to be painful and a single. (ouch) But he also says that the real reason he's doing this is "just have a lot of fun on the course, make
people smile, and keep spirits up."

Crombach has raced in numerous 24's all over the country. Recently she's been trying her hand a soloing. Killington will be her 3rd solo effort. Her goals are simple, "enjoy the course, make new friends and no DHF. Instead of riding as hard as I can and as fast as I can, I take a little more time to enjoy the atmosphere and the experience. I aspire to have fun, enjoy the course and all of the people I meet and have an amazing experience."

We're looking forward to following the coverage from our intrepid correspondents on >>>YourMTB.com 24 Hours of Killington Grass Roots Channel

The FJ Trail Teams Hosts the "Ride-in Movies" plus FJ Test Drives Start Friday
The FJ Trail Team's base camp at the start/finish will feature a big inflatable screen for a "ride-in theatre." Friday will feature a Friday night movie with Two Roads to Baja at 8 pm and then Saturday night, the ride-in theatre will feature adventure films and some of Granny Gear's earliest videos from Canaan and Snowshoe, the "old-days" of 24-hour racing, some amazing historic footage.

For racers who may not have the opportunity to test-drive an FJ during the race, the Trail Team will be offering test drives on Friday from 2-7 pm. More test drives will be available all day Saturday. Be sure to get behind the wheel. The FJ is a surprisingly capable vehicle and a lot of fun to drive.

Remember that your friends and family will have the opportunity to get out during the race and see the amazing racers and gnarly terrain themselves. Don't miss the Saturday night Spectator Safari. Starting at 10 pm, the FJ trail Team will start shuttling folks out to the FJ Trail Team Hot Spot where folks can see first-hand how beautiful (and tough) this race course is. Bring you cow bells! They'll be cheering-on the racers till the midnight hour.
