8:05 p.m. - Eddie O'Dea's crew is happy. The weather is perfect and bikes are running smoothly, as is the human machine they support. For the first three laps, O'Dea and his closest challenger, Jimmy McMillan, were evenly matched with lap times varying between them in one or two minute intervals. On the fourth lap, O'Dea started to pull ahead at the same time McMillan began to fade. As dusk settled over the Georgia International Horse Park, O'Dea forged a commanding lead.
