Cameron Chambers (21) followed by Gary Fisher teammate Nat Ross
(57) complete their first lap in the 10th Annual 24 Hours of
Moab. Mike Janelle (59) completes the trifecta in the Men's
Solo category. Janelle finished his first lap at 1:03.
"It's been a long season," said Ross in a pre race
interview. "I've been resting prior to this and I definitely
came here to win."
Ross and Janelle, who live ten minutes apart, train together
throughout the season but while Janelle raced most weekends
in the NORBA series, Ross' specialty is 24-hour solo endurance
races. The 10th Annual 24 Hours of Moab marks Ross' 26th solo
effort--six of those at Moab. Janelle's inaugural solo effort
was nearly one year ago at 24 Hours of Moab where he held an
eight-lap lead over 24-hour solo champion, Tinker Juarez. This
is Janelle's ninth time as a competitor at 24 Hours of Moab.
"I think it's hard," Janelle said. "I've done
every year except '99 so it's kind of tradition for me, kind
of an end of the year blowout."
Cameron Chambers' training program against the bullying Kansas
winds prepared him well for a jaw-dropping debut as a solo contender.
Seemingly coming out of nowhere, Chambers spooked competition
by rubbing elbows on the Solo podium with regulars like Ross
and Juarez. At 23 years old, Chambers anticipates competing
in 24-hour races for years to come.
"I hope we can edge out a new genre of racing," said
Chambers. "Pro and amateur racers are totally mixed in
with all the people, it's great for sponsors to get exposure
for a full 24 hours and more."
